Selling your device has never been easier. To find out how much you could receive by trading in your old device, fill out your details on our trade-in page. You’ll then need to answer some questions about its condition before receiving a quote value. Then we’ll tell you how you can send it to us.

Responsible reuse is the guiding principle of John Lewis trade in. Once it's received by Likewize, your device will be assessed, securely data wiped, cleaned and polished in preparation for re-sale. In some cases they may need a full refurbishment to bring it back to working order. Any devices that are beyond repair, are responsibly recycled.

When you sell your phone to us, you’re guaranteed to sell it over selling it on an open market source like eBay. Providing your details are correct, we’ll pay the full value with your preferred payment method and we don’t charge a commission for selling to us. And we make sure your device is securely data wiped before reselling. If you’re unable to securely data wipe, we’ll destroy data bearing parts and responsibly recycle all components.

Likewize are John Lewis’s selected trade-in partners. They are specialists in device processing and decide the best reuse route for your old device. Likewize operate upgrade and trade-in programs globally, and they also offer device protection, support and repair capability.

CheckMEND is the world's most comprehensive independent device checking system. It checks devices against a global database of lost or stolen devices. Every device received by Likewize will be tested through CheckMEND. If a device has a red flag within CheckMEND, it will be quarantined. Likewize are unable to make payment for devices whilst a red flag is active. In some instances, there will be a genuine reason for the red flag – you can contact CheckMEND and if they are able to resolve the red flag Likewize will retest the device.

This is a unique 15-digit number given to every mobile phone which can be used to check information such as the phone's country of origin, the manufacturer and its model number. To find the IMEI number, type *#06# on your phone. Alternatively, you can find your device serial number in your phone settings.

There are two options available to you. We can send you a prepaid envelope which you can pop your device into and send back to us. Alternatively, you can print the label off yourself and send it using your own packaging. Both options will require you to go to a post office. We recommend asking for a proof of postage for your records and paying for signed postage on devices with higher value.

Make sure all your data has been saved and backed up. You should remove all security features such as iCloud and Google Lock, remove all PINS and factory reset your device so that we can process your trade-in promptly. Please also make sure your device is fully charged.

Your device is covered up to a maximum value of £100 using the Likewize free postage label. If you have chosen to print your own postage label, please make sure you package your device adequately to prevent damage in transit. If you need to raise a damage claim, please contact our customer service team at support@trade-in.johnlewis.com.

You do not need to send any accessories with your trade in as we only need the device itself. It’s important to remember that any accessories we receive cannot be returned.

Trade-in payments are paid by BACS and we usually make payment within a few days but once your device has been inspected, we’ll email you with payment details.

We can make a BACS payment straight into your bank account or you can opt to receive via PayPal.

Your quote is valid for 14 days. If you need a little more time, you can request a 7-day extension by emailing us at support@trade-in.johnlewis.com. If we receive your device after your quote expires, you’ll receive a revised offer based on the current mobile trade-in value.

If the device is the same condition as stated on your initial order and we have received the device within 14 days, you’ll receive the full quoted value. However, if the condition of the device differs from what’s included in your order, we’ll revise the trade-in offer we made. Should we revise the trade-in offer, we’ll inform you by email with the reason for our revised offer – you can then choose to accept the new value or have your device back free of charge.

If you haven’t received payment for your trade-in, or have any other questions, please contact us at support@trade-in.johnlewis.com.

If for any reason your trade-in quote changes, we’ll notify you by email with the details. If you change your mind, you can request for your device to be returned free of charge.

Follow these steps to remove your account:
For iOS 15 and above
  1. Tap ‘Settings’ > [your name].
  2. Scroll down and tap ‘Sign Out’.
  3. Enter your Apple ID password and tap ‘Turn Off’.
  4. Go back to Settings.
  5. Tap ‘Transfer’ or ‘Reset [Device]’ > Erase All Content and Settings.
For IOS 14 and below
  1. Tap ‘Settings’ > [your name].
  2. Scroll down and tap ‘Sign Out’.
  3. Enter your Apple ID password and tap ‘Turn Off’.
  4. Go back to Settings.
  5. Tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap ‘Passwords and accounts’. If you don't see 'Accounts', tap ‘Users and accounts’.
  3. Under ‘Accounts for’, tap the account that you want to remove and then remove account.
  4. To confirm, tap ‘Remove account’ and then ‘OK’.
  5. If this is the only Google Aaccount on the phone, you'll need to enter your phone's pattern, PIN or password for security.

If you purchase a qualifying device in store that has a promotional enhanced trade in amount and your purchase is made during the promotional period, you will qualify for the enhanced trade in value. Subject to T&C’s.

How to Trade in
  1. Purchase your new Qualifying device from a John Lewis store (See qualifying devices for details)
  2. When completing a trade in on this site. Select the promotion you are claiming for in the Enhance trade-in offer section.
  3. You will need to input the promotion you are claiming for, the date you purchased the new device and your receipt number. If you purchased a phone, you will need to enter the IMEI number of your new phone. If you purchased any other device, you will need to enter the John Lewis product code of your new device.

    To find the IMEI of your phone, type *#06# on your new phone to get the IMEI number.
    Your product code is the 8-digit number underneath the purchased item on your barcode.

  4. Complete the trade in of your old device by following the instructions in the email sent to you. Please record and retain your device IMEI/Serial number until your trade in is complete
  5. Upon arrival, your device will be inspected and the quoted trade in amount will be paid to you. We will let you know if your quote has changed. You will receive confirmation that you may be eligible for the promotional value, as long as you don’t return your new handset.

Customers who purchase a qualifying new product and then trade in an eligible old device with John Lewis may be eligible to receive an enhanced trade in value in addition to the amount of the trade in for their old device.

Eligible trade in devices are any devices that are listed on the John Lewis trade in website with a trade in value. Any device not listed is not eligible for the promotion.

To qualify for the enhanced value, your device must have a trade in value. If your device has a quoted value of £0 or is re-valued to £0, this will not be eligible for the promotion. If your new device is returned within the 30 days returns period, or not purchased directly from John Lewis on johnlewis.com you will not qualify for this enhanced value and it will not be paid. Eligible customers must send their trade in device to be received within 21 calendar days of the new device order date.

Enhanced payments are only made via BACs/Paypal, they cannot be made via gift card. Customers who have selected BACs/Paypal for the payment of their trade in device value will receive their enhanced value via the same payment method.

Customers who have selected gift card for the payment of their trade in device value will be contacted to confirm the BACS/PayPal payment details for their promotional payment. Customers who do not send a qualifying trade in device or do not confirm their enhanced payment details, having been contacted, will not be eligible for the promotional value. If you send a trade in device which was incorrectly quoted for during the purchase journey and this device does not qualify for an enhanced payment, you will not be eligible for the promotional value.

If the device sent in differs from the original quote, but is still eligible, you may receive a new quoted value for the old device. This would not affect the enhanced promotional value.

Your trade in quote is valid for 21 days from the day you received the quote. If you do not complete your trade in within this time period, your device may be re-quoted and an updated value will be provided to you. All enhanced trade in devices must be received no later than 21 days after the end of the promotion. Please refer to the table in the Qualifying Purchases & Promotional Details section for the exact end date of your promotion.

All payment details must be received by Likewise no later than 60 days after the end of the promotion. Please refer to the details in the Qualifying Purchases & Promotional Details section for the exact last date of your promotion.

All Enhanced Trade In Promotions must be claimed (with payment details provided) via Likewize no later than 90 days after the end of the promotion. Please refer to the details in the Qualifying Purchases & Promotional Details section for the exact last date of your promotion.
